An inexpensive
way to add comfort and security to your home is a new door system. We offer installation services for customers who have a unit picked out and ready to install, or some great vendors linked to this page who have some amazing units to offer you and your home.
For
Exterior Doors we want to see a fully pre-hung door.
That is a door with Jambs, threshold, and weatherstripping
all built in one unit that is ready to hang. They
run from $125 up into the thousands depending on the
type of material and the type of glass utilized.
Most doors
are hung on a 4 9/16" jamb, but 5 1/4",
and 6 5/8" jambs are also used on occasion. They
come pre-drilled for deadbolt and door knob, with
hinges included, but no hardware as far as handles
and locks. Make sure to get new locks for your new
door. There will also probably be some materials necessary
to complete the install. We can provide you a materials
list or bring standard materials with us at the time
of your install. Most doors will require new interior
casing, and either parting stop or other wood to full
in the gaps on the exterior.
Most front
doors are 36" wide, most back doors are 32"
wide. The door units themselves are 81 1/2" tall
with jambs and threshold.
Door hinging
is easiest to remember this way. If your back is up
against the hinges, the arm that is up against the
door will be the handing code. That is if your back
is against the hinges and your right hand is up against
the door it is a right hand door, and vise-versa.
This is important in ordering as they cannot be reversed.
